What Is Kratom?

Kratom, aka Mitragyna speciosa, is a member of the coffee family.  It is a tropical evergreen native to Southeast Asia.  Fresh leaves, when available can be chewed.  Kratom leaves can also be dried and put into capsules or made into a tea.  Kratom at low doses may increase energy;  at higher does, opioid-like depressant and euphoric effects can occur. Traditionally, kratom leaves have been used by natives in the region for centuries to increase stamina, energy and reduce fatigue.  Kratom is usually divided into three main categories, red vein, green vein, and white vein.
